Cat Ladies, Hope, and Lilacs
Trending with joy
Nothing smells sweeter than lilacs. When my favorite cat Kitteh Coon Cosette went beyond the rainbow bridge a couple of years ago, I was moving from a home that had a huge lilac tree. I’d enjoyed its flowers for ten years. My cat also loved those lilacs. As I mourned the loss of my darling cat, I was inspired to write a poem about her short and sweet life, which I titled “Precious as Lilacs.”
Since then, I’ve missed having lilacs in my yard. I’ve noticed them in other people’s yards, but been afraid to ask or steal, so this year, I planted two tiny bushes of lilacs in the side yard. These are the type that blooms several times in a summer, but the label said they probably wouldn’t bloom the first year. Still, I planted with hope for the future.
This week has seen a resurgence of new life in many areas. Cat ladies are trending big and I definitely fit the demographic. The loser who put down cat ladies (and mark my words he will be known universally as a loser before this is all over) is obviously not a Swiftie.
J.D. Vance would have been wise to consider that America’s biggest ticket right now is not running for office, but her followers are very good at organizing. And to be fair to Vance, Taylor Swift’s beauty, grace, lyrics, and love of details are probably lost on a man who bangs a couch.
